Piet Rozendaal

Piet Rozendaal, born in 1946 in Zwijndrecht, is an expert on exotic birds. The artist, charmed by the work of the Englishman John Gould and the Australian illustrator William Thomas Cooper, describes his style as photographic. "I try to paint animals as much detailed as possible.” For inspiration and to portray the birds so accurately as possible, Rozendaal visit regular their natural habitats, such as the virgin forests of Brazil and Peru.


Scarlet Ibis (Eudocimus ruber)

This brightly colored bird lives aong the northeast coast of the Amazon basin. In the mangrove area they nest in colonies. Unfortunately Red ibis taste good, reason why these birds until recently were ruthlessly hunted. Today, the red ibis is a protected bird.

Guyana Toucanet (Selenidera culik)

In contrast to most toucan species Guyana Toucanets are sexual dimorphic. The males differ from females. Their plumage is a remarkable palette of colors.
