another eyecatcher

Today we put the snow leopard in the spotlight. Worldwide there are only 4000 to 7000 of these elusive animals in the wild, but their number decreases rapidly. Although strictly protected, they are still illegally hunted. Besides the slaughter by poachers a shrinking habitat is a major threat. Snow leopards are on the official list of endangered species and trade is prohibited by international laws. Yet their beautiful skin and bones (for 'medicines' in Asia) are still for sale. Founded in 1981, the Snow Leopard Trust is the world's leading authority on the study and protection of this enigmatic animal. Their work deserves recognition and support!

Marjolein Kruijt, a dedicated wildlife artist from The Netherlands, portraited a snow leopard in oil. Her painting is on show at Kunstgalerie Oog voor Natuur. If you like, you can ask for details.
